Robbery attempt suspect shot in leg bled to death

Monday, 10 June 2013

KOTA BAHARU - A 32-year-old suspect was killed when shot by police in a robbery attempt at a goldsmith shop at Jalan Temenggong here today.

Kelantan police chief Datuk Jalaluddin Abdul Rahman, in a statement issued here today, said the male suspect, from Kampung Gabus, Tok Uban, Pasir Mas, died on the spot in the 11.15am incident.

The robbery was thwarted by three policemen on patrol in the area who suspected something amiss upon seeing two men entered the goldsmith shop.

One of the policeman went to introduce himself, resulting in the suspect who was armed with a knife to run out through the back door of the shop.

"The policeman then fired a shot in the air as a warning for the suspect to stop, but the suspect attacked him, forcing the policeman to fire a shot at the suspect's leg in self-defence," he added.

Jalaluddin said the suspect fled again for about 15 metres and then collapsed.

"The other two policemen arrived at the scene and helped to stop the bleeding on the suspect's leg," he added.

He said the other suspect managed to flee and police had mounted a search for him.

"We'll identify the suspect through the closed-circuit television recording (CCTV)," he added.
